I remember when I was a kid we were not that well off financially. I had to share a room with my little sister and brother for a long time. I had my own bed though and was able to lay in my bed and read as many books as my mind would take in during those days. One of my favorite book series was Sweet Valley High. I wonder today what it would have been like if an African American female writer had created the series? As African American child that was not exposed to many writers of color growing up–those thoughts pop up from time to time. Yet and still, I loved the writing of Francine Pascal. The characters that she created captivated my mind like a child eating a chocolate sundae. In like manner, the world that the author opened me up to featuring Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield I will never forget. This series definitely a vintage bookmark.
